"Close Encounters" 8 Brit Artist Group Show Tokyo « Result #2 on Nov 10, 2009, 5:48pm »
Adapta Gallery’s third curated project will be held on November 12th - November 29th 2009, with a show in Tokyo called Close Encounters. The show consists of 8 British-based artists, including Best Ever, Cyclops, D*Face, David Bray, Matt Small, Sickboy, Word To Mother and Vesna Parchet. The variety of work on show is eclectic, and that is precisely the reason why we chose them in the first place. From D*Face's two-dimensional graphic art to the rich textures of emerging artist Vesna Parchet's styled character-based paintings, a plethora of mediums, emotions and messages are employed for the viewer to digest. This particular show is very close to our hearts as we are finally able to put together an amazing line up of artists to produce works for our Tokyo readers and Japanese collectors to see in person. We have been interviewing and working on projects with so many talented British creatives over the years and to finally curate our own show in Tokyo for our main audience is a true honour. On the opening night, we will also have special guests: Usugrow, Jeff Soto, Shohei Takasaki & Yoshiki Nagayama also showing their works.

from the book graffiti world: "Bristol based sickboy started off doing regular graffiti. His red-and-yellow temple logo, with organic shapes and freehand lines, have been appearing on rubbish bins and walls since the beginning of 2000. Now he is taking his art one step further and wxperimenting with new mediums, such as the reflective surfaces of demijohns"
and also street sketchbook (which is an insane book): "partly influenced by psychedelia and sixties and seventies architecture, such as the projects avant-garde achitectural group Archigram, sickboy is always experimenting with different materials such as coloured vinyl, which he uses for window installations and to create illustrated light boxes. he is a member and founder of the uk-wide AAGH graffiti crew. 'I never paint from a sketch' he says, 'I just use it to develop a visual vocabulary. I tend to go through phases and definately sketch more in the winter as the weather stifles your creativity in terms of painting exteriors. His sketches become ideas which he enriches at a later stage, maybe on computer or using elements ina painting." hope this stuff helps
HELP PLEASE!!! urgent!!! « Result #48 on Dec 3, 2008, 2:01pm »
hi im new to this forum..ill be going to the stay free exhibition as part of a graphic design contextual studies project. i was just wondering if anyone had any info on the history of sickboy that would be relevant to a biography that i have to include in an essay reviewing his work. i've tried researching him but he remains too anonymous to find anything related to his inspirations/life. i was wondering if anyone here would know any info that could aid me with his biography or could send me a link. any feedback would be much appreciated as im going to struggle with a bio when all i know about him is that hes from Bristol lol.

Apologies for my first and only post being a request for information. I recently won a framed, signed, hand finished version of Biting. I've found out that this is a 1 of 20 edition and am interested to find out what the monetary worth might be.
I'm not looking to sell, so I apologise if there are any no buy/sell rules, I am just interested in the value.

KEEP FORUMS or SHUT DOWN? « Result #84 on Apr 16, 2008, 10:19pm »
If you have enjoyed these forums this is the time to stand up and be counted, this is the time to show what you feel. How many Artists have you found out about because of this forum? Artists & Galleries how many prints have you sold because of this forum? I am continually targeted, abused, and lied about by people and then they are defended as if they are doing a positive and rightful thing. These forums were set up by me to help everyone, and I feel they have really done that job, but I will not continue if I feel I don't have peoples support.
Posts on this thread will show me how you feel, and if you would like this community to continue.
yip me got one, and hopefully going to pow to get the customised print. dead excited. does anyone know if t is true that sickboy will be having a solo exhibition some time this year???
